Hospice of Franklin County
Thanks to everyone who nominated candidates for the
2009 Bruce Van Boeckel Founder's Award
Dianne Cornwell, Director of the
Bernardston Senior Center, was named as recipient of this year’s award. She was chosen from several other candidates
who were nominated by community members for making a significant contribution
to extending the mission and quality of hospice services in Franklin County.
Terry Gaberson, Director of Hospice of Franklin County said that Dianne Cornwell was chosen for
this award for proactively engaging seniors in dialogue related to health care
options, advanced directives, the Medicare Hospice Benefit, and bereavement
issues through ongoing programs and support groups in collaboration with
Hospice at the Bernardston Senior Center.
The hospice director further explained, “Dianne has helped elders
address end-of-life concerns and learn about available resources before they
are needed so they are better prepared to cope with these challenges when they
arise.”
The award is named for Dr. Van Boeckel, a physician
well known in Franklin County for his respect and compassion towards the
patients in his care. He helped to
found Hospice of Franklin County in 2005, served as its Medical Director, and
sought to advance the quality of hospice and palliative care in our community
prior to his death earlier this year.
Ms. Gaberson said, “This award
gives us an opportunity to recognize special efforts made by others in our
community who’ve supported the hospice movement. Dianne Cornwell has consistently been an advocate for seniors in
our community regarding these services that we all have a right to.”
